Illustration

Illustration is beyond doubt the single fastest way of communicating complex emotion, gesture and simple ideas. A cleverly crafted image or illustration may capture emotions too subtle for anything but the most highly poetic language. These are some of my later ones.

This simple spider illustration was made for a children’s book “Fri som fuglen”. The design is meant to evoke the simpler illustration styles of an era of limited printing technology, while still preserving maximal legibility and a modern freshness.

My latest image is taken at the library Deichman in Oslo city. Even from a purely visual perspective, the light was blown out and cast the pilars in a beautiful contrast with the windows. In this image I chose edit to be in black and white to highlight the structural elements of the ceiling.

In the whole building the pentagonal theme seen here is present, with a focus on air, light and colourful artistic expressions that give light to the raw concrete of the walls.

Rarely is it possible to frame people so far away in interiors - and these were nicely framed by the darker book shelves on each side. The center piece of the image of the image, however, is not the people but the swirling macrogeometry of the ceiling, which leads you around the top of the windows and over and above the curve on the top. Only once we have experienced this do our eyes wander around to look for the human figures studying under this massive roof.
